If you’re new to yoga, it can be a bit overwhelming. Learning poses requires strength, balance and flexibility that you only get through practise – and plenty of it. Thankfully, there’s a whole host of equipment to help you learn the ropes and boost your performance.
Balance is vital when practising yoga, which is why you should invest in a good quality yoga mat. Our 6mm Foam Yoga Mat has a sticky non-slip surface to prevent it sliding around and help you maintain your balance when performing complex positions.

Yoga can be hard work, so don’t be surprised if you build up a sweat. If you want to avoid slipping and falling on a sweaty and wet yoga mat, keep a towel handy to quickly wipe it dry. You can also use it to wipe yourself down after a yoga session.
Make sure you stay hydrated and keep your chill. We recommend using a thermo flask water bottle for yoga. They’re specially designed to keep liquids cold for longer to really cool you down. Staying hydrated will also ensure you perform to your maximum potential.
Remember, if you’re going to yoga classes, it’s not a fashion show. You should wear clothing that is comfortable and stretchy, so that it doesn’t cut off your circulation. Stretchy clothing also helps your flexibility, which is key when you’re practising yoga.
For women, we recommend wearing a good fitting and supportive sports bra, gym leggings, shorts or tracksuit bottoms, and a loose top. Men should wear comfortable tracksuit bottoms or shorts and a stretchy t-shirt or vest. The key here is comfort.
Sadly, we’re not all blessed with super strength and flexibility.
If you’re practising yoga for the first time or trying out some new positions, it can be hard to stretch your hands to the floor. By narrowing the gap between you and the floor, a yoga block helps to support your weight and improve your balance.
There are all sorts of styles, shapes and colours available on the market. Cork yoga blocks are more solid for superior support and grip whilst foam blocks are softer on the joints which makes them great for restorative yoga.
Gym balls make it easier to perform certain poses by supporting your weight and enhancing your flexibility. They also help to strengthen your core, improve your balance and align your body correctly to help you develop better posture. All are key components of yoga practise.
